Posting

I was sitting at my computer happily doing my assignment when suddenly the lever of the electrical box tripped and the whole house was encased in darkness. There was a blackout. Oh no ! Not now ! I had things to finish ! The saving grace of this was that I had just saved all that I had typed in. was that a relief !

I got up from the chair and groped my way around. I knew where the candles were and soon I had one lit. as that single candle glowed in the dark, it cast eerie shadows on the wall. I was alone save for Ain, my sister’s little furry cat. I had never thought that I would be so grateful to have what I usually called ‘the nuisance’ around. My parents had the good fortune of going to a wedding dinner sitting in the coolness while my sister was having a slumber party at a friend’s house. They would be spared the agony of the heat and the sweating that was both physical and mental that I had to face for doing last minute work again. Oh, what wouldn’t I give to have the air conditioner on now !

I went out to the porch, fanning myself. As I sat there, I wondered how poor people who had no electricity fared. As I sat there, I thanked the stars for the good fortune I had in life.
